Flats are sometimes unavoidable on road trips, but you can at least make sure your tires are in good shape and your spare is solid and full of air by taking it to your mechanic. A proper tire inspection with rotation and balance if necessary gives you reassurance that you're ready to safely hit the road.
Brakes
Along with checking to make sure your brake pads and rotors are in good shape, the mechanic can check your brake fluid to see if it needs flushing and replacement with new fluid.
Cooling system
The last thing you want on a summer road trip is your cooling system to fail so have it inspected to see if it needs a coolant exchange and flush. The mechanic should also check hoses, the water pump and radiator cap for signs of wear.
