Express Auto Service & Repair

Even though the price of fuel has decreased significantly during the last few months, many people are still needing to save a few dollars here and there. With regular automotive service, vehicle owners can keep their cars operating efficiently, saving them money at the pump, but also in unexpected automotive repair issues.

Need to know how to increase fuel efficiency on your vehicle? Here are a few tips:

  • Regular oil changes. Follow the right mileage intervals for oil changes, using the right type of oil for your motor.
  • Replace dirty air filters. A dirty and clogged air filter causes your engine to work harder, making it less fuel-efficient.
  • Avoid idling. Turn off your motor if you have to sit for more than a few minutes with it idling.
  • Lower your speed. Speed limits are now considerably higher on highways than in years past, but driving over 60mph generally increases the amount of fuel used. As much as possible, maintain a steady speed and avoid unnecessary acceleration by using your cruise control.
  • Use lower octane fuel. Using higher octane fuel than your car allows does not boost fuel economy.
  • Tighten the gas cap. Keep the gas in your tank. Make sure the gas cap is in good condition and tightened properly so that the gas in the tank will not evaporate.
  • Correct tire pressure. Underinflated tires reduce fuel mileage and the life of your tires because they create more resistance on the road making your engine work harder.
  • Car Tune up. Make sure the spark plug connections are clean. Misfiring spark plugs cause a poorly running engine.
  • Reduce drag. Remove roof racks, bicycle racks, etc., when not in use, don’t haul unnecessary cargo around, and keep tires balanced and wheels in alignment.
  • Clean Fuel System. Clean fuel injectors help maintain operating performance, reduce toxic emissions, and maximize fuel efficiency.

Tip to Remember: To help you save money on fuel, automotive repair, and a longer-lasting vehicle, your owner’s manual lists the automotive service recommended by the manufacturer of your vehicle.
