Express Auto Service & Repair

Knowing how to take care of your car will ensure that it stays running stronger and longer than typical. This is accomplished by keeping up with a full car service about every 12,000 miles, or annually, whichever comes first. The purpose of a full car service is to evaluate your car for general wear and tear to the condition of the fluids, brakes, engine, tires, and more. By taking care of a small car repair before it turns into a big repair, will save you time and money spent later down the road. By making sure all the systems of your vehicle are functioning properly, it can prevent an accident and even save lives!

So what should a full car service include? The first place to look for guidance is your owner’s manual. It outlines a schedule for the maintenance items that should be taken care of at certain mileage intervals. A full car service should include:

  • Oil changes, including filter replacement
  • Lights, tires, exhaust system, etc., will be inspected
  • Brakes and steering systems will be inspected
  • The engine is “tuned” to run at its peak performance level
  • Fluids, such as the hydraulic fluid, transmission, and coolant levels will be inspected
  • The cooling system will be inspected, including the radiator, belts, and hoses
  • Suspension system inspected--shocks, struts, axles
  • Wheel alignment and tire balancing checked
  • Condition of the battery—including the alternator

So that you don’t have to watch the odometer, many of today’s newer vehicles have an in-vehicle service reminder system with a service reminder that will illuminate on the dashboard for certain maintenance services, such as oil changes, fluid level checks, brakes, transmission, etc. For older vehicles, know what your owner’s manual says as these service intervals are still based on the number of miles driven within a certain time period.

In addition to saving money on car repair, there are other benefits to car service. Because the engine and components will be running at their most efficient level, your car will be more fuel-efficient. And, your car will retain a higher resale value if you can show a complete history of service and car repair.
