Express Auto Service & Repair

Many vehicle owners will often put off purchasing new tires as long as possible. They just keep paying for frequent and inconvenient tire repairs. With the new technology in tires, don’t keep that old set around. Look into the various options that can make new tires last longer than ever.

After learning a little more about the newest trends and technologies in tires, we hope you will pay more attention to the round black objects that keep you rolling down the road.

Read All About Tires:

  1. Skinny vs. Wider tread -- Skinny tires are back. They rely on minimal rolling resistance, while also improving fuel efficiency.  Even though wider treads increase cornering grip, they don’t improve acceleration or braking traction. Wider tires also crowd the mechanicals and shrink the passenger compartment.
  2. Performance Siping – Siping is done by placing tires (either new or used) on a machine that rotates them while making small, virtually invisible, 90 degree cuts in the tread. Studies indicate the benefits of siping include improved braking, better traction, a smoother ride, and cooler running (less friction buildup).
  3. Static Electricity -- An inadequately grounded vehicle is a continuing issue. Modern tire compounds have become less conductive as the amount of carbon black in rubber compounds have been reduced to cut weight and rolling resistance.
  4. Keep your Spare – Even though many drivers never intend to fix a flat on the road, having a spare in the trunk offers them a sense of security, along with roadside assistance, inflator kits, and run-flat tires.
  5. Invest in a run-flat tire -- A deflated run-flat is good for several miles after it loses pressure. Tire manufacturers claim that they can cover 50 miles at 50 mph--the slower you go, the farther you can go.
  6. Reduced Weight -- Tire manufacturers are working to reduce weight, but the challenge is to reduce the gauge of the steel cord without diminishing the tire's ability to survive roads with potholes, broken pavement, and other hazards. Some engineers are working to reduce weight at the tread, which reduces the inertia of the tire and wheel.
  7. Airless tires -- Airless tires combine a wheel and a tire in one composite molding. These are now in production for low-speed industrial and off-road applications, such as lawnmowers and skid steers.
