When planning your trip, it's important to include a pre-trip inspection so that untimely travel interruptions and possible highway accidents can be prevented. There are six basic auto systems that should be inspected for performance to avoid an inconvenient interruption on your vacation, or even an accident:

- Braking: Make sure your brakes and rotors are in good condition before you hit the road.
- Emission: Check for any leaks in your car's emission system.

- Electrical and ignition: Servicing the battery, starter and ignition are vital to a well running automobile.
